Satisfied customers are a number one priority for the owners of Sand Dune Cattle Co., LLC.
This has been a very important goal for Scott and Jennifer Svoboda since the inception of their operation in 1995. The Svobodas have been exposed to the cattle industry since childhood, with their families and educations being huge influences in their choice of careers and the decision to enter into the registered Angus business.
The initial registered Angus herd began with purchases from very familiar Nebraska and Montana Angus breeders, Dethlefs Angus, Summitcrest and N Bar Land and Cattle.
Since this time, the Svobodas have retained several replacement heifers and purchased a few select females along the way. EXT is a very dominant bloodline in their cow herd, and they believe this great maternal sire has been very instrumental in producing some of the better cows in production at Sand Dune Cattle Co. today. AI sires owned by and featured at Sand Dune Cattle Co. include Connealy Virginian 681, Summitcrest Complete 1P55, Sinclair Excellency 5X25 and Ironwood Efficiency 3303.
Artificial Insemination (AI) was something Scott learned at the very young age of 14 (Scott’s grandfather has been breeding AI since 1963), and he considers it exciting and challenging to explore the world of genetics, especially with all of the new data and technology available today.
Over the past few years, the Svobodas have implemented an extensive embryo transfer program to their operation. This progressive approach has opened a whole new door into the ever-exciting world of genetics for Sand Dune Cattle Co.
Sand Dune Cattle Co. markets their bulls and replacement females through an annual production sale held the first Friday in April at Bossen Ranch, northeast of Westerville, NE. A private treaty female sale is held in the fall where they will offer a selection of elite show heifers and donor cow prospects. The steers are backgrounded and sent to the feedlot at Bossen Livestock in Arcadia.
Scott and Jennifer hope to continue the expansion process of their operation and intend to maintain their philosophy of raising bulls that will go to work for the commercial cattleman with complete customer satisfaction. Honesty and integrity, combined with quality cattle are a big part of the SDCC package.
Sand Dune Cattle Co, LLC is located on the beautiful Middle Loup River at the gateway to the Nebraska Sandhills, southeast of Sargent. Their 300 cows run on pasture in Custer and Valley Counties, and the Svobodas raise enough corn and alfalfa to feed.
In addition to the cow herd, Scott and Jennifer also raise foundation bred quarter horses with an emphasis on performance in cutting and reined cowhorse. Horses are marketed annually through private treaty sales.
Other important members of Sand Dune Cattle Co., are Scott and Jennifer’s children, Weston and Wryder; and Scott’s mom, Teri Svoboda of Kearney.
